About Seller: Chicago Magnesium Casting Company was established in October of 1953 by Donald R. Burnett, following his service in the navy and completion of a degree in metallurgy from the University of Illinois. Initially operating out of a small cinder block building in Blue Island, just south of Chicago, the company began by producing castings for the Piper Cub airplane and jukeboxes. By 1959, the company had outgrown its original facility and constructed the current site. Over the following decades, Chicago Magnesium experienced significant growth, serving clients such as Sundstrand, Westinghouse, and General Electric. Today, the company boasts nearly 150 employees and a diverse customer base that includes Boeing and United Technologies. Since its inception, Chicago Magnesium has been a leader in magnesium and aluminum sand casting. The company made history as the first foundry to supply production castings in magnesium sand casting alloy WE43, a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy developed by Magnesium Elektron. This innovative alloy offers exceptional elevated temperature mechanical properties up to 480 degrees F, making it ideal for applications such as helicopter and aero engine transmission cases. Chicago Magnesium is equipped to produce a wide range of castings, from small, intricate pieces to those weighing up to fifty pounds. Many of the castings produced by the company feature thin walls and complex internal coring to meet specific design requirements. Serving both military and commercial sectors, Chicago Magnesium provides castings for helicopters, jet fighters, jumbo transports, and regional jets. With a quality system based on Aerospace 9100 standards and NADCAP accreditation for special processes, Chicago Magnesium is well-positioned to meet current and future market demands.
