About Seller: Royal Paper Box Company was established in 1940 by Harry Lourie. Shortly after its inception, Harry brought on board a young die maker named Clary Hodges, with whom he had previous experience, and who quickly became the production arm of the company. Recognizing the opportunities in custom packaging, the two individuals operated a small folding box plant in Los Angeles, CA with a team of around twelve employees. With a strong entrepreneurial drive, they successfully expanded the business and relocated to a larger facility on 61st Street in Los Angeles. In the mid-1950s, when Harry Lourie decided to retire, Clary Hodges, along with key employees and outside investors, pooled their resources to acquire the company. In 1956, Royal Paper Box Company was reestablished under Clary's leadership. The company acquired its first Offset Printing Press, a 29" Miehle, in the early 1960s, and later expanded to a 60,000 square foot facility in Montebello, California in 1964. Subsequent growth was driven by a focus on meeting customer needs, leading to another significant expansion of an additional 40,000 square feet to the manufacturing facility in the late 1970s. Over time, Royal acquired adjacent properties and now operates on a sprawling 10-1/2-acre campus with approximately 200,000 square feet under roof. James Hodges, Clary's son, gained experience working at Royal before serving in the Marine Corps overseas. Upon his return, James joined the company full-time in the production department, learning all roles before eventually taking on overall operations responsibilities in the 1980s. In 1991, Clary passed away, and ownership was transferred to his son, James Hodges.
