History of Innovation and Growth: The history of Gems Sensors & Controls dates back over 50 years to 1955 when the company's founder, Edward H. Moore, developed a level indicator in his basement. This invention was patented in 1959. Along with his partner, Gordon Seigle, Moore founded the Gems Company (GS standing for Gordon Seigle, EM for Ed Moore). Gems' initial success came with the development of a bilge switch for the small boating industry. The rapid adoption of Gems' products in marine and industrial applications led to the continual expansion of facilities and personnel, from a 6,500 sq. ft. building to a 60,000 sq. ft. facility in Plainville, Connecticut, USA. Presently, Gems designs and manufactures a diverse range of liquid level, flow switches, pressure switches, miniature solenoid valves, and pre-assembled fluidic systems. Gems operates as a division of Danaher Corporation, a Fortune 500 company with a global presence.
