About Seller: Johnson Bros. was founded by Edwin Johnson, Sr. in 1947 when he decided to start his own business. He constructed the company's first roll forming machine in his basement, which is now in storage. Edwin offered his five brothers an equal share of the business if they matched his life savings of $700. Only one brother, Harold Johnson, accepted the offer, leading to the name Johnson Bros. The first machine was assembled and tested in Edwin's basement before being moved to his garage due to noise complaints from neighbors as production increased. Eventually, the brothers found a dirt-floor garage in Chicago that had previously been a stable, which they insulated, added a small office, and heated with a stove in the colder months. Johnson Bros. has evolved from focusing on lockseam and openseam tubing to producing a variety of shapes for industrial use and now utilizes sophisticated computer-controlled in-line fabrication. They work with all types of metals, prefinished or plain, ranging in thickness from .004 in. to .188 in., and their products have been distributed to various locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and parts of Europe. The company's sales have reached seven million, with a team of 36 full-time and six part-time employees. Despite challenges with outsourcing in recent years, Johnson Bros. is optimistic about the future.
