About Seller: The achievements of the Garthwait family exemplify the strong work ethic long admired in America, particularly in the state of Connecticut. By combining entrepreneurial spirit with traditional machining skills commonly found in New England, they have successfully developed Line Manufacturing, Inc. into a reliable supplier of specialized precision metal stampings. In 1932, Ralph and Clyde Garthwait established Line Manufacturing in a two-car garage with $400 each to invest. Initially focusing on producing broom caps, the brothers worked long hours, often putting in 15- to 16-hour days, including weekends. By 1939, the firm, with just one full-time employee, was generating $275,000 in annual shipments and moved to a 1,000-square-foot facility nearby. Following Ralph's passing and Clyde's departure from the business, Helen Garthwait, Ralph's widow, took over the company and successfully managed it during World War II when Ralph's sons, John and Joseph, were called to serve in the armed forces. The history of the Garthwait enterprise is characterized by perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to customer service, resulting in consistent growth over the years. This success challenges the prevailing negative opinions regarding the organizational capabilities of American industry on a global scale. Today, Line Manufacturing, under the leadership of third-generation owners Bruce Garthwait, Joseph Garthwait, Jr., and Gregory Garthwait, operates out of a 20,000-square-foot facility in Wolcott, Connecticut, situated on company-owned land.
