About Seller: The achievements of the Garthwait family significantly contribute to the longstanding admiration of America for the strong work ethic of the Connecticut Yankee. By combining entrepreneurship with traditional machining skills commonly associated with New England, they have successfully developed Line Manufacturing, Inc. into a reliable provider of specialized precision metal stampings. In 1932, brothers Ralph and Clyde Garthwait established Line Manufacturing in a two-car garage with $400 each to invest. Initially producing broom caps, the brothers dedicated long work weeks of 15- and 16-hour days, including weekends. By 1939, the company's annual shipments reached $275,000 with only one full-time employee, prompting the construction of a 1,000-square-foot facility nearby. Following Ralph's passing and Clyde's departure, Helen Garthwait, Ralph's widow, took over the business and sustained operations during World War II when Ralph's sons, John and Joseph, were called into the armed services. The history of the Garthwait enterprise is characterized by perseverance, hard work, and a commitment to customer service, resulting in consistent growth over the years, challenging negative perceptions regarding the organizational capabilities of the United States industry on a global scale. Presently, under the leadership of third-generation members Bruce Garthwait, Joseph Garthwait, Jr., and Gregory Garthwait, Line Manufacturing occupies a 20,000-square-foot facility on company-owned grounds in Wolcott, Connecticut.
